Did you know...the sandwich is named after the 4th Earl of Sandwich, John Montagu? He was said to have ordered meat between two slices of bread, as he didn't want to leave the gambling table.

However! The simple sandwich is actually much older - there are records of Hillel the Elder wrapping lamb and herbs in matzo during Passover. Hillel died around 10 CE, so it's definitely safe to say he beat John in the creation of the sandwich!

Canterbury Cathedral

Founded in 597 AD, the cathedral is part of a World Heritage Site. It has been rebuilt many times over the years, due to fires and expansions from pilgrims.

Before the English Reformation, the cathedral had been a Benedictine monastery since the 900s. On orders of Henry VIII, the shrine to St Thomas Becket was destroyed after the cathedral changed.

The Red Fort

An old fort in Delhi, this was historically the main residence of the Mughal emperors. Construction on the fort began in 1639, and it’s thought that the architect who designed it also constructed the Taj Mahal. Most of the fort was sadly demolished after the Indian Rebellion in 1857, although the artwork and jewels had already been taken in 1739.

These days, the Indian Prime Minister raises the Indian flag at the main gate and gives a speech as part of the celebrations of India’s Independence.
